For the tl;dr folks, here are the cliff notes:

- New: Added Italian language translation
- Fixed: Bitly custom URLs will no longer be overwritten by standard bitly URL
- Fixed: Call to undefined class error
- Fixed: Javascript validation conflict with ACF, WooCommerce and a few other meta fields
- Fixed: A few styling and structural elements that allowed some themes and/or plugins to cause Social Warfare to display improperly
Now, for those of you who love you some details, read on.
Google Analytics Event Tracking FTW!
Those of you who love your Google Analytics reports are probably already jumping for joy over this new addition.
All you need to do in order to begin tracking share button clicks on your Social Warfare-powered site is navigate in your WordPress dashboard to Social Warfare > Analytics
and check the ON switch for “Activate Google Analytics Event Tracking…” and save your changes.
Once you activate our new Event Tracking you will now be able to see every time someone clicks on one of your Social Warfare share buttons inside Google Analytics. You can find the report by going to:
Behavior > Events > Overview
You will see social_media
as an Event Category and can view the Event Action parameter to see all share button clicks that have occurred within your given timeframe. Each share event will look like this:
sw_NETWORK_share
Here’s an example what it will look like inside Google Analytics:
You can see the event will start with sw_
and then have the network name, followed by _share
so you can easily identify these events.
We’ve now added this to our Google Analytics Dashboard Template (from our tutorial on Social Media ROI) which you can grab by joining our Email List below.
That free dashboard template allows you to create your own Social Media ROI Google Analytics Dashboard with only a few clicks.
How cool is that?
Expanding Our Language Translations: Big Deal
With this version we are introducing an Italian language translation. Prego!
But this is just the beginning as we’ve made a giant switch to how we translate the plugin.
Moving forward, our plugin will not have a “Language” option. Instead, it will detect the default language you’ve set in WordPress and, if that translation is available, automatically translate the plugin to that language.
We can’t do this alone though. So we’ve set up a project on POEditor where contributors can help us translate into their own language. If you’d like to give us a hand and edit the plugin into a language that isn’t already covered, you can join here.
We’re really excited about this because it’s definitely a level-up experience for our plugin as we begin getting closer and closer to version 2.0, which will be a game-changer.
[Sneak peek, anyone?]
And That’s the Way the Cookie Crumbles
The rest of the updates contained in this release were mostly minor. Squashed some bugs, updated a few CSS classes and some general tidying.
There was, however, one major bug fix that was included in this release. It solved a major problem for a small fraction of our users, and we’re really happy to have gotten to the bottom of it.
We’re now working on our next update that should be one of the last incremental updates before we go “heads-down” on building out version 2.0. We’re super excited about it and can’t wait to let some early users get their hands on it.
